How Long Does It Take To Read 100 Pages?

It takes about 150 minutes or 2 hours and 30 minutes for me to read 100 pages of a book each page containing 300 words on average.

In some cases, it takes about 120 minutes or 2 hours to read 100 pages when I read fast and sometimes it takes 190 minutes or 3 hours and 10 minutes to read 100 pages when I need to read slow.

Some determining factors determine whether I can read 100 pages in 150 minutes or it will take more or less time than 150 minutes. For example, reading habits, content type, text meaning, etc. If the text meaning is easy to understand, content provides a good feeling and pleasure, it necessarily takes less than 150 minutes to read 100 pages.

On the other hand, when I read a book of deep meaning that I have to think a little more to understand the meaning, it takes more than 150 minutes for reading 100 pages.

When I was reading The Curious Incident of the Dog in the Night-Time by Mark Haddon it took about 150 minutes to complete reading 100 pages.

To read deeply Poetics of Aristotle translated by Samuel H. Butcher, took 180 minutes for me to read 100 pages. Reading 100 pages of A. Lincoln: A Biography by Ronald C. White Jr. took exactly two hours or 120 minutes for me.

Factors That Affect Reading Time

Some key factors affect the reading time for everyone I think like background knowledge, vocabulary, reading habit, active reading, and critical thinking level, etc. Let’s take a look at these in short detail.

Background Knowledge

Background knowledge plays an essential role in reading comprehension that might lessen reading time or even increase. In trying to understand a text, we rely on background knowledge to link what we already know with the text we are reading. Background knowledge includes both a reader’s real-world experience and literary knowledge. If you having the right background knowledge of the context, you can read fast.

Vocabulary

When you can understand every word of a text or a book you are reading, it will take less time to complete to read 100 pages. In case, when I have to find out the meaning of a word to understand the text, it takes more time to read pages. If your vocabulary knowledge is rich, you can pick the ideas of a book instantly and link the context in the situation. This will take an average time to read 100 pages. Otherwise, it will take more time to read 100 pages than 150 minutes.

Reading Habit

Reading habit allows you to catch the information with accuracy and instantly. Someone who reads on a regular basis possesses the ability to read fluently through reading practice. When I have become a fluent reader, I need to spend less time understanding the meaning of words and the overall meaning of sentences. Regular reading makes you a fluent reader will develop the ability to respond to any text with insight. So, someone who has a reading habit takes less time to read 100 pages than 150 minutes.

Active Reading

Active reading signifies that reading something with a determination to understand and evaluate it for its relevance to your needs. When I am going to start reading a text or book, I have a goal about why I will read that particular book. Therefore, there is a determination that I should understand exactly what I read. It requires you to underline or highlight keywords and phrases as you read. That’s why depending on reading nature, it varies the reading time whether it takes 150 minutes or less or more than 150 minutes to read 100 pages in fact.

Critical Thinking

Critical thinking means the analysis of facts to form your own judgment on a specific text you are reading. Basically, critical thinking is a complex thing, and there might be several different definitions which generally include the rational, skeptical, unbiased analysis, or evaluation of factual evidence.

You can actively respond to a book more efficiently when you have critical thinking. As you read you can determine the main idea and supporting details, the sequence of events, and the overall structure of the text. So the more critical thinking you own the less time you need to read 100 pages.

How to Read Faster But Effectively

I would like to suggest you follow the following things if you need to read faster but effectively. By effective reading, I mean achieving the purpose for which you are reading something like a book or any other text.

Avoid Distractions: You should read in such an environment where no distractions and interruptions can happen. Distraction will allow you to not fully focus on the words you are reading. This fact will take more time to complete reading something.

Read Easy: In the fact of you are going to make a reading habit, should start reading easy books or texts so that you can keep your interests. Cover the words that you have already read. This helps you close your eyes back to the previous words and reduce your reading time.

Fix a Goal: This can be effective if you are using the skimming method of reading because you should pay attention when you see relevant words, sentences, or phrases. You can then slow down on these points, or round them up to emphasize, but otherwise, move the page faster.

Read Regularly: Only by developing regular reading habits will you be able to read faster. Reading regularly will enrich your vocabulary, can understand the background quickly which will reduce your reading time significantly.

It doesn’t matter if you’re reading fast or not rather what you are learning by reading is extremely meaningful.
